Ranald graduated from the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1995 and was called to the Singapore Bar in 1996. He is now concurrently a Consultant of the firm and a Senior Lecturer at the School of Law, Singapore University of Social Sciences. Ranald’s legal practice experience is primarily in litigation and dispute resolution involving commercial, family and criminal matters. His other work experience includes stints as in-house legal counsel at a multinational IT company headquartered in Singapore and as a Deputy Director at the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL). At SAL, he was responsible for the establishment of Academy Publishing (the publishing arm of SAL) in 2007 and for overseeing and coordinating the massive Singapore Law Reports (Reissue) project that was eventually launched in 2010. Ranald has a special interest in the teaching and learning of legal skills and has been teaching Singapore law students legal skills and ethics for more than 20 years. 

Ranald currently serves as a Core Committee member of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education’s CPD Accreditation Committee, as well as a lay member of the Complaints Panel of the Singapore Medical Council.

Outside of the legal field, Ranald spent many years as an NSman Armour Officer, receiving the Long Service Medal (Military) at the National Day Awards 2019, and completing his service with the rank of MAJ(NS) in 2020. He also volunteered in the organisation of several National Day Parades in various leadership roles, including overseeing the design and production of the Souvenir Magazine for NDP 2018. In his private time, Ranald enjoys anime, sports and the outdoors, and he learns patience and humour from two fat cats.
