Terence Tan

Director
+65 6236 0328

Terence's main area of practice is in dispute resolution. He is a versatile litigator with experience  handling a broad range of cases including corporate/commercial, construction, insolvency, insurance, banking, employment, medical malpractice, family (matrimonial) and partnership disputes. Although he has successfully represented clients in Court, Terence firmly believes that a positive outcome may not always need to be achieved through the court process. His priority is getting his clients the appropriate closure to be able to move forward from the dispute. With this perspective, Terence provides practical and cost-effective advice to his clients to achieve the best possible outcome.

Terence started his practice in a large Singapore law firm and was involved in several of Singapore’s landmark cases including the Committee of Inquiry hearing into the Nicoll Highway collapse in 2004 (representing the main contractor); representing an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the first of its kind medical negligence 'wrongful life' claim in Singapore (by a mother of a child born with Down’s syndrome); and advising major financial institutions in Singapore on customers’ allegations of ‘mis-selling’ in the wake of the Lehman Brothers collapse and ensuing global financial crisis. Terence’s practice also includes non-contentious matters, where he provides advice to both his individual and corporate clients in areas of law relating to employment, regulatory and disciplinary matters. Terence also handles probate applications and conveyancing transactions and advises on general legal matters.

Terence obtained his law degree from the National University of Singapore in 2001. In 2011, he received his Masters of Law (LL.M) from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. and obtained a graduate certificate in International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution. Terence was admitted to the New York Bar in 2012 and joined Genesis Law as a Director in 2014. Terence is a certified mediator under the (UK) Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) and an Associate Mediator with the Singapore Mediation Centre. He is also a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators.
